We get a short, sweet taste in spring Of summer's golden beams, For birds and trees and everything Arise from winter's dreams. During the Second World War, Louis Buonocore was conscripted, as a Bevin Boy, to work in the coal mines. The poetry he wrote at the time reflected not only his mining experiences, but also a strong appreciation of the natural world, of the rising and setting sun and the changing seasons.
