A factional tale. Metjen and Isis, with their two boys, lived in the time of Ramesses III. In theory, they should have been well pleased that Metjen as a capable stone cutter had secured a job building the Pharaoh's tombs but to do this, it meant that the family must live in the worker's village of Deir el-Medinah. Although the workers were free men they were never allowed to leave as they knew everything about the chambers they were building. At the onset, it may have appeared a dream job but families discovered they encountered insurmountable drawbacks.
