Freedom of the Will Jonathan Edwards
Freedom of the Will
Jonathan Edwards
The theological battles between Calvinists and the new Arminians had a lot of points of contention but one of the ones that Edwards decided to tackle was the dividing opinion on liberty and free will and the roles these will play in the lives of the believer. While Arminians had and do favour the idea of free liberty to act and fall as we please, the strong Calvinist favoured the idea of God's complete sovereignty and control. Edwards takes the issue and applies his thinking on what liberty and free will mean in the scope of predestination but these issues are two that still cause much contention in these schools.
