*3-Volume Set*
Neidhart is, after Walther von der Vogelweide, the most significant and most successful minnesinger of Middle High German literature. Following decades of work on revising the entire tradition, this new analytical edition presents the lyrics of all of the songs passed down in tradition under Neidhart s name, together with their melodies. Published nearly 150 years after the first edition by Moriz Haupt (1858), this volume takes into account, for the first time ever, all of the known texts from parchment and paper handwritings, as well as in prints, including the so-called 'pseudo-Neidharts'. Divergent text editions are presented side by side to facilitate comparison. The entire history of the tradition and edition of the songs is comprehensively reconstructed through the help of apparatus and commentaries, a bibliography and a discography.
- first edition to include all of Neidhart's traditional songs
- critical edition including melodies
- includes a commentary, bibliography, and discography
