Track III Actions: Transforming Protracted Political Conflicts from the Bottom-up
Helena Desivilya Syna
This book will largely focus on case studies, applied research, the legal actions of civil society and policy development. There will be a contrast between interventions directed at conflict transformation in post-conflict societies and those actions in a society embroiled in active protracted political conflict. The former component will revolve around Northern Ireland and the Balkans, discussing various initiatives of political actors and protagonists in the civil society. Novel research perspectives will shed light on the barriers impeding conflict transformation and remedies designed to promote transition to constructive relations between former adversaries. The second component intends to present and explore the experiences of Israeli Jewish and Arab/Palestinian scholars, social activists and players who are involved in policy planning and change efforts. Also examined will be those practitioners attempting to build joint spaces of constructive encounters in a complex divided Israeli society, engulfed by active protracted conflict.
