Culture and Leadership
Kozhi Makai
Aid organizations often insist that recipients adopt Western leadership, management, governance, and cultural values as a precondition for aid. While research has shown that managing in the Third World is different from management in the United States, there continues to be an underlying assumption that Western management and leadership principles fit neatly in the Third World. The problem addressed by this book is the lack of quantitative research defining differences in cultural orientation and leadership preference between Zambia, a Third World country, and the United States. This study is important because understanding these differences is the first and necessary step towards finding and integrating internal and lasting solutions for many of sub-Saharan Africa\'s challenges. Results of the study showed that Africa\'s problems cannot be completely grounded in Western assumptions.
