Time can never be arrested- that could be the motto of this dissertation. Michael Cunningham has created The Hours, a three-horizon-fiction on the basis of Virginia Woolf?s Mrs. Dalloway. Using her stream of consciousness technique Virginia Woolf completed Mrs. Dalloway in 1925. While the plot takes place in a single day it represents a woman?s entire life. Cunningham amazingly interweaves three different times, places and lives in his fiction and at the same time closely follows Woolf?s original story. Woolf?s unique style comes to a new life in the film adaptation of The Hours, (directed by Stephen Daldry in 2002) which also brings a new image to both Woolf and to one of her most well known character: Mrs. Dalloway.
