Cultural Perceptions: Female Voices in Higher Education
Lisa Arbon Tagge
In the year 2000, there were a relatively small number of female presidents of institutions of higher education within the United States. Equally qualified men and women did not experience the same opportunity for service as presidents of post- secondary institutions. Problems for women included breaking leadership traditions in a male-dominated field and understanding perceptions predetermined by culture and gender. Differences in leadership styles, norms and recruiting practices also influenced the quest for women to attain this goal. This book provides information which confirms the inconsequential number of women who have served as CEO¿s of colleges and universities within the state of Utah.
