Mazharul Haque(1866-1930) appeared on the socio- political horizon at a time when India, reeling under the British misrule, was also faced with severe social evils. Mahatma Gandhi's social and political movements aimed at mass conciousness gaining ground steadily, Mazharul Haque, a true associate of Mahatma Gandhi, contributed significantly to the gigantic task of social amelioration and political liberation.
