Genetics-An Evolving Concept in Periodontolgy. Aparna Thakur

Recent progress in the development of high quality genetic markers and high density human genetic maps shows promise in facilitating new strategies for mapping disease-causing and disease susceptibility genes. Correlation of these genetic polymorphisms with stable phenotypic characteristics of periodontitis patient groups may provide the framework for identification of molecular biomarkers to be incorporated into individual risk profiles and also help to set the foundation for developing new treatment strategies.
