An Exploration of Selected Works for Horn, Voice, and Piano Jon Mayhew Anderson

The purpose of this study is to explore selected writings for horn, voice, and piano, providing performance considerations for the hornist. Text, musical structure, and the use of the horn will be considered. The specific works explored in depth will be Schubert?s Auf Dem Strom, Britten?s Still Falls the Rain and Grantham?s La Noche en la Isla. These three contrasting works represent different eras, different voice types, and pose different challenges for the hornist. A compiled listing of all the works found by the author (for horn, voice and piano) is included as part of the study. This extensive listing of the works for horn, voice and piano will serve as a reference for anyone interested in performing in this instrumentation.
