Advances in biological research in the post-genomic era had resulted in a large number of research publications and data that far exceeds a scientist's ability to keep abreast. This work focused on the hormonal regulation of mouse lactogenesis as a case study, for the development of computational methods with the potential to survey large volumes of literature for the current state of knowledge, which can be used to screen against experimental data. This work found a set of expressionally correlated genes that are not mentioned in the literature - presenting novel areas of study. As keeping abreast with knowledge is an increasingly crucial part of the life of a research scientist, the author presents a changing face of biological research - from survey-hypothesize-research-evaluate to survey-hypothesize-research / knowledge update-evaluate.
