In 21st century there has been a shift in the way the problems related to people with disabilities (PWDs) are sought to be addressed. Focus is on making the environment barrier free. However, as of now, PWDs are yet to gain equal access to various civic amenities in the society. There is little doubt that transport holds the key for enabling the PWDs. Their mobility is seriously constrained due to inadequate public transport facilities. In fact, the level of development of a society can be judged by the extent to which its transport system is accessible to PWDs. This requires regular audit of the public transport system. Unfortunately, research on this aspect is scarce in India. The authors of this book have attempted to fill this void by providing such data from a city in northern India. This work will be of help to enable the people with disabilities to participate effectively in society, especially in poor resource countries.
