Nanomanipulation- Friction and Other Physical Phenomena

This work concentrates on nanomanipulation of a nanosphere lying on a stage via a pushing scheme. Such unidirectional nanomanipulation can be achieved by employing devices such as the AFM and the Zyvex nanotips. Recently, friction between the sample and the stage during the nanomanipulation process has sparked interest among many research groups. Experimental data exhibit a stick-slip motion behavior of the sample during the manipulation process. This work presents a novel approach to better model such nanomanipulation. The proposed model is effective in reproducing experimental behavior commonly observed during the nanomanipulation. The proposed nanomanipulation model also facilitates further improvement and extension of each subsystem to accommodate other physical phenomena that characterize the physics and mechanics of nanomanipulation. The book is addressed to scientists, engineers, and experimentalists working in the nanotechnology field.
