Outsourcing to India: Perspectives on Culture and Globalization

The offshore outsourcing or "offshoring" of high-skilled jobs is a growing trend that is causing alarm among many U. S. workers. In fall of 2002, a large telecommunications company (Company A) joined this trend when it began outsourcing software and documentation work to India. This book examines Company A's relationship with an Indian outsource company (Company I) from the perspectives of culture, communication, and globalization. Drawing on personal interviews and industry research, this book examines the motivating factors behind and inner workings of the outsourcing relationship, as well as challenges, successes, and lessons learned. Finally, this book makes recommendations to help Company A to build on its successes and increases the awareness of other companies and workers about offshoring and the attitudes that surround the trend.
