The indiscriminate dumping, deliberate and accidental discharge of industrial and agricultural effluents into farmlands, air and aquatic environment has constituted serious environmental and public health menace. Decaying garbage in dumpsites and water sources affected by faecal contamination have given rise to cholera, dysentery, increased cases of infection. Pollution can be defined as the contamination of the environment ? air, water or earth by harmful substances, which may be detrimental to humans or things of value in the environment.
