Pakistan's commercially exploitable energy resources consist of natural gas, oil, coal and hydropower. The Government realizing fully well that while a fiscal package with competitive incentives plays a vital role in attracting fresh investment, an adequate protection of the companies' investment is an essential prerequisite for promotion of petroleum exploration in the country. This led to enactment of foreign investment protection of 1976 by the Parliament, under which the Government guaranteed full safeguard for foreign investment in Pakistan.
