The Goods and Services Tax (GST) - India's biggest tax reform post-independence was implemented on 1 July 2017. The new tax regime seeks to transform the Indian economy with its 'One Nation, One Market, One Tax' principle by subsuming a host of indirect taxes charged at varied rates by the Centre and states, therefore bringing uniformity in taxation across the country. Construction and real estate have been a booming sector in India, which is facing a major slowdown in the aftermath of demonetization. It has always been a sector riddled with litigation owing to the multiplicity of taxes and dual administration mechanism; thereby exposing it to the conundrums of both Central and State levies. This book aims to study the impact of GST on the real estate sector of India. In addition to that this book aims at studying the impact of taxes that were levied earlier and the new development of GST on Construction & Real Estate in the present scenario.
