Cancer after kidney transplantation
Bernadett Borda
Cancer is the second most common cause of mortality and morbidity in kidney transplant recipients. Kidney transplant recipients have at least a twofold higher risk of developing or dying from cancer than the general population. Malignancy is one of the most common causes of death in kidney transplant recipients . In kidney transplant recipients, the incidence of cancer is generally increased 2- to 3-fold compared with the general population . This increased cancer risk is not spread evenly over all types of cancers; while some cancer incidences are not increased (breast, ovarian, brain and cervical cancer), others are increased substantially (lung, colon, liver, lymphoma, melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer).
