Many African countries including Tanzania are signatory to several international treaties and covenants, for instance, the United Nations covenants on civil together with political issues, which it approved in 1976. By signing as well as approving such international treaties, several governments of Africa acknowledge that they have an obligation to abide, defend, observe, fulfill as well as to facilitate the rights in those tools. In the context of Tanzania, right to express own opinion in Tanzania is a Constitutional and fundamental right. After all, free speech is a fundamental value of any democratic community deserving the highest legal protection. However, despite the claims about the human rights in the democratic society, freedom of expression in many African countries including Tanzanian seems not to provide the outcomes of its implementations. In fact, this book is one of the few works on Freedom of Expression of the 21st century which demands a more than professional audience. The book offers vivid examples of obstacles in practices of freedom of expression in Tanzania.
