Pharmacognostic analysis of plant drug Juliana Cristina Mansano

Population interest in natural therapies, with medicinal plants, has increased significantly. Senna alexandrina Mill, popularly known as sene, has been used for its phytotherapeutic properties since the ninth or tenth century. Sene leaves are most commonly used in the form of teas, however, the extracts are used in a wide variety of laxative products. This work aimed to evaluate the aspects of physicochemical quality in sene leaves sold in bulk in natural products stores, by quality tests of vegetable raw materials, as well as its characteristic chemical constituents.
