The illicit sale of medicines concerns the sale of products outside the official circuit, commonly called street medicines (MDR). These products are sold without distinction. The purpose of this study was to assess the extent of the sale of illicit drugs in downtown Bamako. It was a cross-sectional, descriptive study that took place over a period of 5 months from July 2012 to November 2012 to better document the problem of the sale of street drugs in three markets in the city of Bamako(Grand marché, Rayida, Dabanani). In sum, 65 drug sellers were surveyed on their profile, their level of knowledge about the drugs sold and some local names attributed to these products. The majority were male (78%). Only 7.6% of the vendors had a secondary school education, while 43% had no schooling. The antibiotics found were mainly: Beta-lactams, Nitro-imidazoles, Tetracyclines, Phenicolates, Cyclines, Sulfonamides, Aminoglycosides, Quinolones.
