The author finds ample scope to explore this particular aspect in the major characters of R. K. Narayan to the fullest extent. The author's stress, therefore, is exclusively on the psychological aspect of his characters and their behavior. The motives behind the actions of the characters have been relegated to the background and only the actions of the characters have been stressed upon. The motives behind human actions really x-ray the essential qualities that go into the making of that particular character.
