The aim of this study was to investigate hyponatremia in cirrhotic patients. It was a prospective study conducted in the hepato-gastroenterology department from January 2020 to December 2020 including hospitalized cirrhotic patients. We collected 49 cirrhotic patients with hyponatremia including 23 men and 26 women with a mean age of 51.7±14.54 years with extremes of 20 and 79 years. The etiology of cirrhosis was viral dominated by hepatitis B virus. 59.18% of the patients were classified as Child Pugh C. The prevalence of hyponatremia for a natraemia ? 130 mmol/l was 22.45% and 27.55% for a natraemia between 130-135 mmol/l. Hyponatremia was correlated with the severity of liver disease. Complication-free survival was shortened in patients with severe hyponatremia. Overall survival was 20.4% versus 79.6%. Hyponatremia is a poor prognostic factor in cirrhosis and is correlated with the severity of liver disease.
