Since Islamic art is based on the Word, which was revealed in the form of the holy book, literature has an important and privileged position among other arts of almost all Islamic nations. A special place in this regard is given to the art of book design. The first book adornment, calligraphy, was later supplemented with colorful arabesques and miniatures (Fig. 1) to illustrate the text. Bindings with gold embossing or covered with lacquer painting are often real works of art (Fig. 2). Here art is based on knowledge, which, in turn, has a spiritual origin and which the masters of traditional art called hakima, meaning wisdom. In the culture under consideration, the spirituality of gnoseological and intellectual spirituality are inseparable - they are components of a single reality.
