We were made for the land and the land was made for us. The adage serves the entire planet of Merced as the people live in harmony with the majestic oak forests that surround them. Legends of old-those who once walked on the wind-foretold living trees formed into homes, a near endless supply of food and water, and peace ruling the four lands. Everything predicted came to pass and is the world in which Eli awakes as a baby, remembering everything from his life on Earth. He is an August Child. By law, August Children are raised away from their families in the capital, never to return. The ruling class asks for trust, but the only people Eli trusts are his new parents. Together, they choose a different path for Eli-one that could get them all killed.
