Even if I think some of his views may be antiquated, they were the norm for his time. I have enjoyed all of the Henty titles I have read, and as a student of history I found this title helpful in understanding a part of the French Revolution I'd never read about before. I heartily recommend this book as it gives a good account that not all of France was party to the revolution. If I have any issue with Henty it is that the books are a bit formulaic - hence the 4 stars instead of 5. That said, they could easily be a supplement to understanding any part of history he wrote about. Accept that he wrote with the predominant worldview of his day, and appreciate the story for itself and you can enjoy it.
