War of the Worlds is a highly coveted science fiction novel by English author H. G. Wells, first edited in 1897 by Pearson magazine in the United Kingdom and by Cosmopolitan magazine in the United States of America. The first hardcover presentation of the novel was in 1898 by London publisher William Heinemann. It is one of the first stories to detail a confrontation between humanity and an alien race. The novel is the first-person narration of an anonymous protagonist in Surrey and his younger brother in London as the south of England is invaded by aliens. The novel is one of the Canon's most talked about works in science fiction.
