Tom's good friend, Mr. Damon, came in in the middle of the conversation, not knowing what the situation was. It happened that Mr. Damon invested in a company that bought cinchona bark from Peru, but production almost stopped, prompting Mr. Damon to invite Tom to accompany him to Peru and discover the source of the problem.
