"Dramatis Personae" is an attempt at autobiography, which takes as its starting point the long - held belief that the world is a stage and life a play. Most literary fiction is based upon this notion which allows a few to be remembered while the vast majority of us go " unwritten-up ". In an attempt to make some amends for this oversight, the author of "Dramatis Personae" simply records the names of those who have shared his experience and so made up the cast-list of his life. It will, of course, have little significance for anyone whose name does not appear on the list but it may encourage others to keep a similar record of their life. For that reason, at the end of the book, are several blank pages on which readers can list their own "Dramatis Personae ". A retired history teacher, David Conduct now lives in Durham where he taught for over 20 years. This is his tenth book.
