Part of the successful Chronicle series, Mary Johnston's 1918 narrative tackles the formation of the southern British colonies in what would later be the United States. She gives a detailed account of the establishment of the founding of Maryland, the Carolinas, Georgia, and in particular: Virginia. Mary Johnston was a well-known suffragette, and her analysis of gender issues during the peak of her political activity, just two years before women won the right to vote.
