Police detective-turned-priest Raff Rafferty stumbles on the body of celebrated movie star Marc Palmer on a remote beach in rural northern California and is persuaded by the local sheriff to help with the murder investigation. Traveling to Los Angeles, Raff quickly acquires a list of colorful suspects, among them are the victim's four ex-wives, a shady Las Vegas showman, a resentful ex-acrobat, a Hollywood sex symbol actress, a macho Western hero and a sinister psychic medium. When several suspects die suspicious deaths, Palmer's only child kidnapped and his guardians slain, Raff digs deeper and uncovers tantalizing clues regarding Palmer's true identity, about which the screen idol has always been vague and mysterious, as well as the extremes to which some people go to achieve success, fame -- and revenge!
