On September 7, 1996, gangsta rapper Tupac Shakur was shot several times in a drive-by at East Flamingo Road and Koval Lane, three blocks from the Flamingo Hotel formerly owned by gangster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, shot to death on June 20, 1946 in Beverly Hills, California. Glittering Destiny: Anecdotal Stories of Tupac Shakur and Bugsy Siegel in Las Vegas entwines the lives of two real-life figures of gangster/gangster culture around the theme of Las Vegas. On the surface Tupac Shakur and Bugsy Siegel are totally different, however, they have many underlying similarities. Both were born in New York and their career paths took them to Los Angeles. One was a gangster who wanted to be a film star and the other was film star who wanted to be a gangsta. Near the end of their lives there is a shift. Bugsy has become mainstream and Tupac has become more gangsta. It was destiny that brought them to Las Vegas where they met their fate. Bugsy lived there and Tupac died there. Both were shot while sitting within inches of an associate who wasn't harmed. Both shooting occurred around eleven at night. Their final resting places are in Los Angeles. The book also explores gangster/gangsta culture, the mob, Nevada's original gunslingers, and the First Lady of Las Vegas, in addition to people who met similar fates as Tupac and Bugsy.
