Jens Lekman | Songs for Other People's Weddings
Jens Lekman returns with his first solo album in eight years, "Songs for Other People’s Weddings". This project is a companion to a novel of the same name, co-written with bestselling author David Levithan.
The project was born from Lekman’s unlikely side career as a wedding singer - a role he stumbled into after fans took his 2004 track 'If You Ever Need a Stranger (To Sing at Your Wedding)' literally. Both the novel and the album follow a fictional character named “J,” a hapless but big-hearted musician who writes custom wedding songs while navigating his own love story with his partner V. The two works play off each other: the novel providing narrative structure, the album weaving in and out as an emotional soundtrack.
Musically, the album is a lush journey through dreamy pop songs, sweeping strings, flashes of saxophone jazz, and a romantic yet bittersweet electronic sheen, compositions as tender and intricate as the fictional wedding songs they embody.
