Frank Zappa | Bongo Fury (50th Anniversary)
The classic collaboration between Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart in May 1975 sparked a burst of new compositions, a tour, and ultimately an album. “Bongo Fury” is made up mostly of live recordings from Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Texas, complemented by a few studio cuts from the Record Plant in Los Angeles. The album remains a standout entry in Zappa’s catalog and the last to feature the band name “Mothers” before it was retired in 1976.
The 50th Anniversary CD box set delivers 5 CDs of material (approximately 80% previously unreleased), including studio outtakes, live recordings, and both Armadillo concerts in full—remixed from the original 16-track master tapes. The release also includes previously unseen photos and liner notes from band member Denny Walley and Vaultmeister Joe Travers. The Blu-ray adds brand-new Dolby Atmos and 5.1 mixes, high-resolution stereo audio, plus additional surround experiences sourced from Zappa’s Vault.
The 2LP deluxe edition features all-analog mastering of the main album, plus a bonus LP with selected highlights from the 6-disc box set, a lithograph print, and a booklet packed with previously unseen photos and liner notes from band member Denny Walley and Vaultmeister Joe Travers.
