Kenny Dorham | The Complete 'Round Midnight at the Café Bohemia
"The Complete 'Round Midnight at the Café Bohemia" presents a seminal live documentary from trumpeter Kenny Dorham at a defining moment in the development of hard bop in the mid-1950s. Recorded in May 1956 at the legendary Greenwich Village club Café Bohemia, it documents Dorham with his own sextet in what was his first live recording as a bandleader.
The sublime set features the trumpeter alongside JR Monterose on tenor saxophone, Kenny Burrell on guitar, Bobby Timmons on piano, Sam Jones on bass and Arthur Edgehill on drums in an inspired collection of compositions by Dorham, Monk and Dizzy Gillespie as well as selected standards from "The Great American Songbook".
The vinyl edition is fully analog and cut directly from Rudy Van Gelder's original master tapes by Kevin Gray. The three LPs are pressed on 180g vinyl by RTI and come in an exclusive "tip-on" trifold cover that includes a booklet with never-before-seen photos by Francis Wolff as well as an in-depth essay and review of each track by Syd Schwartz.
