Roderick David „Rod“ Stewart, singer and songwriter was born January 10th, 1945 in London, England. Initially he wanted to become a soccer-player, but due to his musical talents, and his distinctive raspy tenor voice, Stewart ended up coming to prominence in the late 1960s and early ‚70s as the lead singer for The Jeff Beck Group and then The Faces. He launched his solo career in 1969. With his career now in its fifth decade, Stewart has achieved numerous solo hit singles worldwide, most notably in the UK, where he has six consecutive number one albums and 62 hit singles, including 31 that have reached the top 10, six of which have gained the number one position! He has also had 16 top ten singles in the USA, with four of these reaching number one! Various music industry groups have controversially estimated Stewart‘s total album and single sales between more than 100 million, up to 200 million. In either case, he has earned his place on the list of best-selling music artists on the planet!
