Existential drama from film-maker Terrence Malick. Christan Bale plays Rick, a screenwriter who is in the midst of a life crisis and is the modern day embodiment of the tarot card 'knight of cups', a man on a quest who enters into a deep sleep after becoming distracted and drinking a strange potion. After becoming increasingly detached from reality in the hedonistic world of the LA film elite and ending his marriage to Nancy (Cate Blanchett), Rick flits from one hollow romantic encounter to the next, struggling to uncover his purpose of being.
