Jerry Lewis directs, co-writes and stars as socially awkward chemistry teacher Professor Julius Kelp in this 1960s American comedy. Hoping to impress his favourite student, Stella Purdy (Stella Stevens), and overcome the humiliation that has been heaped on him all his life, Julius invents a special formula intended to transform him from a shy, timid academic into a handsome and charming gentleman. The experiment is a success, turning Julius into the incorrigible Buddy Love and giving him the courage to approach his beloved Stella.
However, the formula responsible for the professor's remarkable transformation begins to wear off at the most unexpected moments...
