George Stevens directs this epic retelling of the life and ministry of Jesus from his birth to his crucifixion and resurrection. Born in a stable in Bethlehem, as an adult Jesus (Max von Sydow) gathers disciples and performs miracles. People begin to follow him and listen to his sermons and teachings but the Romans and the Pharisees are troubled by his growing influence and seek to arrest him.

After Judas (David McCallum) betrays him and facilitates his arrest, Jesus is sentenced to death, but three days later he is resurrected and ascends to heaven. The cast also includes Charlton Heston, Sidney Poitier, Roddy McDowall, Donald Pleasence and Telly Savalas.
