Alex Koo
When the young Belgian-Japanese jazz pianist Alex Koo Derudder packs up and moves to New York, he there encounters two world icons of jazz: Mark Turner and Ralph Alessi. Together, they form an acoustic 'chamber tio', consisting of piano, tenor saxophone and trumpet. Shortly after, they record their CD, which they now
present in premiere: Appleblueseagreen. As a young talent, Alex has already received numerous prizes (Prinses Christina Concours, SABAM B-Jazz Composition Prize, Fulbright Award, Prins Bernhard Culture Prize). This new project is his next ambitious step in his further development as a pianist and band leader, by working together with two of his biggest heroes. The intimate setup of this trio immerses the listener in a universe of unique sound textures, painting a path through original compositions and improvisations. For both American guest musicians, this album also is a sort of premiere: after impressive international careers, dozens of releases and concerts all over the globe, this is the first and so far only CD on which both gentlemen can be admired together.
