Producer Norman Granz was occasionally overwhelmed by the sheer number of his recording projects: on December 2, 1974, he recorded an entire album at Group IV Recording Studios in Hollywood, Los Angeles, bringing together pianists Count Basie and Oscar Peterson in a rhythm quintet with Freddie Green (guitar), Ray Brown (bass) and Louie Bellson (drums). No one could have guessed at the time that this unique combination would ultimately lead to a total of five albums. The first album, on which Basie also plays the organ, is one of the best!
