Art Pepper
Picture the magic that would ensue if Art Pepper, the alto saxophone virtuoso, teamed up with the legendary rhythm section comprising Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums. Their debut album, released on the Contemporary Records label in 1957, showcases their synergy on classic songs such as 'You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To' and 'Waltz Me Blues', and the result is simply magnificent! For Pepper, who was known for his emotionally charged performances, this album was a career milestone. He said that the album was recorded under enormous pressure, as he had only found out about the recording session on the morning of his studio appointment, and he had never met the other musicians, whom he greatly admired. His instrument was also not in particularly good condition.
