It didn’t need much fantasy and courage to predict a glorious career for Duffy similar to that of Amy Winehouse. The singer, born in North Wales has not only a remarkable, extremely expressive voice but also an extraordinary charisma that you can barely take your eyes off her. The title song of her debut album “Rockferry” is pure magic. And all of the songs on the album have the same quality. The 1984 born Aimee Anne Duffy has the support of great musicians in Tokyos Liquid Room. With her modern retro sound that always reminds you of the classic girl group sound of the 60s and artists such as Dusty Springfield she definitely has a sound grasp of contemporary developments. It doesn’t matter if she plays ballads such as “Hanging On Too Long” or she sings groovy up tempo songs such as “Mercy” where she literally sings one’s mind to the heavens. The result is always smashing.
