The don Cyrus returns to Distance's Chestplate imprint for its 19th release due out this month - two dubstep monsters that pay close attention to space. The first, Nostalgia has seen deejay support from Icicle all the way to Skream & Benga. An energetic percussion performance with massive sub bass stabs, the tune brings fundamental minimalism to the darkness of dubstep and hardly occupies space between sub and drums save for massively delayed and reverbed voice and synth stabs and the occasional chord of color. Weighty. Rinse out imminent. On the flip is Rupture: bent out of shape, absolutely dread business. Look out for such subtleties as bit crushed snare reverb, white noise snares, and kick-snare syncopation thrown out of the hypnotic rhythm.
