Taiwan?s complex informal diplomatic practices andthe forces behind them have brought both successesand failures in Taiwan?s relations with formerYugoslavia and its successor states. Despite itsshort triumph with Macedonia, Taiwanese diplomacy didnot succeed in accomplishing its objectives inpost-Yugoslav states. The study has attempted toscrutinize the major reasons behind the setbacks andopportunities. It provides a systematic analysis ofmajor external and internal influences that haveshaped Taipei?s diplomatic endeavors in thepost-Yugoslav region by employing four basic levelsof analysis ? the system, the state, the societal andthe individual level. This book represents one of thefirst endeavors at conducting a detailed study ofTaiwan?s relations with the former Yugoslavrepublics.
