Amharic is the second largest language, next to Arabic, in terms of number of speakers with in the Semitic language family. This language of wider communication is an official or working language of The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and some regions with in Ethiopia such as Amhara, the multi-ethnic Southern Nations Nationalities and People's Region, Addis Ababa, Benishangul Gumez and Afar. Amharic serves as a medium of instruction in government and public schools and thought as a subject in elementary and high schools in the regions mentioned. Besides, the language serves as a language of instruction in institutions of higher teaching like Addis Ababa University, Bahir Dar University, Debub University, Jimma University and in different teacher training institutions at the department level. This study attempts to examine approaches of Pedagogical Grammar that are being used to teach Amharic as a Second Language (ASL).
