Urban areas in Ethiopia are experiencing alarming rate of expansion both spatially and demographically. This fast rate of urbanization is accompanied by huge demand of land for different urban purposes. As a response to this huge demand, the government is implementing expropriation of land from the immediate peri-urban zone and this is resulting in the transformation of immediate peri-urban tenure and use. As a result of this, dispossession of land holders (poor farmers) and tenure transformation from life long use right to leasehold is the typical characteristic of the peri-urban areas in Ethiopia. Therefore, in this book the writer tries to show the impacts of expropriation and tenure transformation on the livelihoods of the dispossessed farmers in the peri-urban areas. The output of this research paper is expected to be utilized by researchers, academicians, land managers and policy makers.
