Dr Fixit finally settles down with a wife and the success of his play, 'The Intrigue', makes the soldier ants clamour for the original movie script to be brought to them. The script eventually is successfully retrieved but five members of the youthful recovery gang abscond with the human film crew heading back to human enclaves. One later sends a letter to the theatre boss intimating he is in possession of the copy of the blueprint of a movie machine and would need help to transport it to Antburg. Dr Fixit volunteers to go bring the lad and his product back with the assistance of his aide, Crookedmouthit. The journey begins after Crookedmouthit's short play, 'The Vampire', is shown to a receptive audience and Dr Fixit finishes his second movie script, 'The Return of Mendit One', and submits it to the theatre boss. He openly tells others they would bring the lad back in one week but secretly makes known to his aide the fact they may be on the road for a year or more as meeting one runaway youth might lead to meeting the rest of them and a long series of events might just unfold.
